I never considered myself an artist. The most people ever got out of me were stick figures, blobby clouds, box houses, poofy flowers, and Garfield eyes. It wasn't until I took a class on the subject that I learned about perspective, shading, shadows, and really how to take it one piece at a time. When I need to draw something new, I will give it shot on my own using those techniques while looking at a subject. However, that doesn't always work. Taking it step by step, I still missing something. I then turn to good old YouTube. There are tons of step by step instructions out there for me to use. This week, I'm learning to draw a quail.
I did my best on free hand, but it wasn't making it. After a quick YouTube Video, I can see where I was missing steps and, from there, I'll eventually make it my own.
